Thanks to my friend, Stefanie, at the restaurant where I work… I have narrowed down the “niche” for this blog. It will still be Trends in Technology, such as blogging (how to) and latest gadget and web site reviews… but I will also focus on ways to make money on the Internet: the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is a lot of crap out there that are basically just scams. When I find out about something, I’ll post it and discuss it.
Like for example, yesterday Stefanie told me about a woman that approached her on the street and asked her if she wanted to make more money. Stef ended up meeting with a second person in Starbucks and he gave her a presentation about a “business” that is about marketing via text messaging. (*yikes*) One huge red flag is that he said that Stefanie needed to pay a $20 dollar start-up fee. Anyway, she told me all about this and I said I would look into it for her. So, more to come on that one.
Another idea Stef said she was thinking about is signing-up with SMC. If you are not familiar with SMC, they are Specialty Merchandise Company. They’ve developed a system for people to sell their merchandise via catalogs, the Internet or in a traditional brick and mortar store. SMC system is not bad, but again… there are start-up fees involved. The big drawback that I see is the merchandise. It is pretty cheap in quality and I really don’t think there is enough demand for it. I think if you are going to be a direct salesperson (in person, on the Internet/eBay or where ever), you should sell something that you are excited about and there is a large demand for. Trends change. That’s why it is important to stay current with what people are buying, then find a supplier, a good price and then sell it until the trend is exhausted or there are too many competitors.
That is my .02 for now.
